WHO ARE LGBTQ+ MINORS?

Who are LGBTQ+ Minors?

LGBTQ+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and beyond. It refers to a community of people who have diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. LGBTQ+ minors include young people under 18 years of age who belong to this community 

 

  • Cisgender refers to individuals whose birth gender and current gender identity are the same (male or female).  

  • Gender diverse youth include everyone else.  Gender diverse youth may identify as transgender male, transgender female, gender fluid, as well as a range of other gender identities. 

 

Why are LGBTQ+ Minors important in HIV Prevention?

In the United States, the group with the highest rates of newly diagnosed HIV infections are LGBTQ+ youth.  Among LGBTQ+ youth, Black or Latinx youth have the most newly diagnosed HIV infections.
